Have you made your resolutions for the upcoming year?
How are you feeling about them?
What if I told you, I have something better than making a resolution?
Something that yields progress. Allows for good energy. But it requires self reflection.
It’s the day after Christmas and I am sure in addition to your fleeky outfit and party plans, you are probably thinking about the new year. Your goals. Your resolutions.
Truth is, resolutions are just not my thing.
I can not tell you how many times I have ended the year without even remembering what I declared at the beginning of the year.
It is always my intention to accomplish my goals. To get slimmer. Learn something new. To finish what I started or do whatever I deem the new year is a fresh slate for.
But it wasn’t working out for me. And I just got tired of it not working.
So my own reasons for not setting resolutions are:
You can start a new habit at any time of the year.
Actually, I have found that when I set out on a journey to pick up the slacking on the fitness journey and decrease the scale, I do better when I do like Nike. And just do it!
There is no better time like the present to set a goal and smash it. Just like that. Don’t wait on a new year to make a resolution.
They don’t stick
Raise your hand if you have set resolutions.
Now keep it raised if you have come to the end of a year and actually remembered to check in and see how you did.
Still raised? Keep it up if you remembered what your resolution actually was when you went to check in.
If your hand is still raised, hold it there a minute longer if you have accomplished those goals when you checked back in at the end of the year.
If you hand is still raised, you are the resolution winner!
Unfortunately for you….. there is no prize. you just get bragging rights!
I don’t need the pressure
I don’t know about you. But when I set a resolution, I just feel pressure. Like real life pressure. and not the good kind.
I set out to go to the gym. I get there. check. I see all the skinny chicks who been there since last year pushing forth on their resolutions. Then I get sad.
When I get sad, I wanna bake. When I bake, I eat what I bake. AND then I forget to go to the gym to work it off.
So you might be asking, well what do you do since you got it all figured out??
And you might be surprised that I have an answer.
I pick a word!
Yup a word! One word. And I roll with that all year long…
Every year, I do an exercise where I choose a word of the year. I brainstorm what using that word as motivation and a guiding force will look like. Things that will manifest as a result of choosing that word and goals I will accomplish. All based on A WORD.
