Sooooo if you follow me in any space other than this here blog, you may have noticed that my name has changed and I have a “new name”.
In fact, if you look at the written by field of this very post up above, my name has changed there too!
I previously wrote under the name Bijee. I wrote a post about the name and who I was at that time when I first started blogging. But since then, a few things have changed.
Bijee is still one of my many names, but part of the reason that I chose to write under that name is because I wanted to separate my blog life from my real life; for multiple reasons. The main reason being that I didn’t want people I worked with to have my blog pop up, if for some reason they chose to google me or something. Cause really, I am every bit worth googling right?
But here recently with all the change and restructuring of my life, which I will be haring REAL SOON, I have decided that I want my real name to be part of my whole brand. So I am doing just that.
Enter the new and improved me.
My old name
My name is TaKenya Rasean. It’s pronounced “Ray – shawn” by me, and “Ray – cine” by my momma. Tomato, Tomayto, but I like my version better.
TaKenya gets butchered to all high heavens. Therefore, I’m making it easy. Easy for you, easy for me.
KenyaRae, that is the new name!
It is something that I called myself at one point a while back anyway. It’s me, you know, my real name”ish”.
So there you have it. I am called Bijee or “B” by my hubbae, family & friends, and even some of you, TaKenya by others, and a host of other random ones too.
Let’s see. There is Keena, TK, plain ol Kenya… man and there is even more. sheesh hopefully this new name reigns it all in…
Out with the old and in with the new…new name
You will find me now along these inter web streets as KenyaRae, on social media look for “IamKenyaRae”. If you are not following me already, I have linked them so you can do so now. Cause we’re friends right??
I don’t know what changes other changes are up next? But I feel like you should be excited. I sure am!
3 things to keep in mind before changing your online identity
Before you change your name, think about why you are changing it. For me I wanted to stop writing under a more anonymous name and to start using my actual name.
Think about what you will change your name to. Put some thought into it, and make sure that it makes sense. This ties back in to your why. In my pursuit to make this space more authentic for me, I felt this to be necessary. While my full name is TaKenya, I go by Kenya and so it made sense for me to use the combination of my first and middle name.
Think about how you will do it, and how you will notify people that you have essentially changed your online identity. Do it in a way that there is minimal confusion as to who you are and so people are not confused about who this is popping up in their timeline. This can minimize people unfollowing you or no longer being connected with your brand.
