She is a 22 year old student entering graduate school in the Fall to earn a combined Master of Science and Educational Specialist degree in Mental Health Counseling. Her goal is to become a licensed Mental Health Counselor with her own private practice, where she will specialize in working with adolescents and young adults. Currently, she works part-time at a church nursery as a member of the nursery staff and living with her mom, dad, younger sister and dog.
She is a young lady with a powerful story and message.
Check below as she tells us of her struggles with mental health issues.
I have had a few struggles…and the greatest struggles have been my struggle with mental illness (depression and anxiety), loving myself and giving my life to God. But, my love for people, knowledge of my purpose and need for self-expression is what motivates me to do what I do: to blog, vlog, speak, perform and one day, counsel.
While still working through my struggles I find strength in knowing that GOD loves me unconditionally and that He will never leave nor forsake me. Along with that, knowing that God will always meet me where I am encourages me. I also have been blessed with a strong, loving support system.
Knowing that I am not where I used to be has helped to keep me going.
I have found that through my struggles there are two women who have played a pivotal role in my growth as a woman; first, there’s my mother, Juan, who showed me what true unconditional love is. She has taught me to love as God does and is the reason that I love people the way I do. She is the reason I am the woman I am today. Second, my former chemistry teacher, mentor and friend— Ms. Mack, has provided Godly guidance, encouragement and watching her overcome her own obstacles has been an inspiration to me.
I know there are other young ladies and women like myself with some of the same struggles. I just say first and foremost, know that you are loved and you are deserving of a happy and healthy life. Know that you are GOD’s daughter and that He loves you unconditionally and that He is waiting for you with open arms.
You do not have to do this alone—if you are struggling with mental illness, it is more than okay to seek help in the form of a mental health professional and/or medications.
If you are struggling with giving your life to God, it is okay to seek pastoral counseling, to go to church and ask questions—look for a man or woman of God you trust and ask for their help.
Go to bible study.
Pray without ceasing.
If you are struggling with loving yourself, then you must start to treat yourself the way GOD treats you—with understanding, compassion, care, respect and kindness, even when you don’t feel like it. Even if it feels wrong. Affirm yourself daily and do things that are healthy for you and that make you happy.
Most of all, know that all of this is a process. It takes time and sometimes, you may not always get it right. Sometimes, you may feel like giving up, you may be hurt and angry—even confused, but that is okay. It’s okay to feel so simply allow yourself to feel and keep pushing. You got this.
A good woman to me, is a woman who loves people, and herself, the way God does. In her own way, she brings positive change into the world and empowers others.
I am still striving to be this woman—I have a lot of work to do on myself before I can love myself the way GOD does, and before I can love ALL people the way He does. It will be a constant work-in-progress, and I am okay with that.
What an awesome young lady!!

I love to spotlight and feature real women with real struggles. Women who are being open and transparent about their struggles, how they are not letting those things define them. Instead they are defining their own “good”. To see more about why transparency is so important please Click here.
