How you doing? No really, I am asking, and I really wanna know.
I was walking through the the gym headed to my class recently and a lady looked at me, gave the courtesy smile and said “how you doing”?
You know I never understood why people say that in passing. Or even in casual conversation.
I can not tell you how many times a friend has asked how you doing not really prepared for if I gave them the real.
Or even how many times I’ve asked only to get “I’m good”. Only to later find out that at that very point in homegirls life she was on the edge, with only her baby toe holding on.
When you ask how you doing? You should be prepared to hear the answer. Of course this is just my opinion. And who am I?
I’m guilty of it too. I won’t say I’ve never done it. But on this day I got to reflecting on it.
I just feel if you are not prepared to get an answer, you should just say hey there, hello, what up, yo! Or a whole host of other things you can say and keep it moving.
Because when that lady asked me how was I doing, I was on the verge of a melt down.
I was tired of debating with my four-year-old about everything from what’s for breakfast to the choice of music on the ride to the gym. My knees were aching but I was coming to this stupid gym to get a break from said toddler for an hour. And to try to shake off some of this fat so these darn knees will maybe stop hurting.
I was thinking about all my projects I have going on, and how I am gonna execute, and what I had to cook for dinner, and who I had to drop off where and when. And quit frankly I was tired and overwhelmed. And I would have rather been at somebody’s massage parlor being treated the way I deserved instead I was at that dumb gym.
But I just said “Hi!” and kept it moving that day.
Maybe I should have unloaded. I bet she wouldn’t have asked how I was doing again.Stop Asking People How They Doing If You Don't Care... Click To Tweet
