Life can sometimes be riddled with some hard times. But it is my firm belief that in all of them they are designed to help you grow through life.
Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle.
I wrote this in a slightly broken space. One that I was sure would have an unmeasurable amount of growth on the other side of it.
And honestly, I can’t wait to report to you from that space in what I hope is the very near future. The journey has been ongoing since writing this.
The week that this was written consisted of a breakdown, an overnight stay away from home, searching for and finding a counselor, and more tears than I could even begin to count.
Through it all, I have realized that I had been doing something that I absolutely don’t believe in. I was stuffing away feelings, emotions, negative thoughts and more.
Rather than addressing those things, I just went into a space of just “trying to make it”. Trying to fulfill the responsibilities that are required of my life roles.
I knew then and I really know now, this is an unhealthy behavior. I often times find myself discouraging my loved ones and friends from doing it. But honestly, I don’t even think that I was aware that I was doing it.
I noticed that I was becoming withdrawn, passive aggressive and sometimes just down right angry out of no where. And that is when I realized there was something going on.
Along with that, I was starting to not want to be around people, including my immediate family and experiencing feelings of resentment, discontentment and even a tad bit of hopelessness.
Here at WRE we are adamant that life is to be lived and growth is an essential part of it.

Your outlook determines whether you just make your way through the motions and “go through life”, or if you choose to learn and let life teach you a thing or two.
When doing the later, you’d be surprised that you will actually GROW THROUGH LIFE.
I’ve found myself choosing the first one and just going through.
I’d get up each day and do what I had to do.
I went to work, I came home, I did homework with the kids, I cooked some form of a meal. That was it.
In times when things are on the up and up, I actually enjoy cooking. I find that I am constantly looking for new delicious meals to feed my family. I make them with love.
In recent times, I really just made sure that they had something of nutritional value and substance on the table. And on a good day, it was at the regular time.
After all that, I got “the people” ready for bed and I then usually passed out myself.
But, no rest was enough, no time alone was enough, and nothing made the feelings that I was feeling go away.

But through the course of events that had occurred, I realized that something had to change. I realized that I had to do something different if I wanted to feel different, and essentially get back to a place where I was moving forward and growing into who I am supposed to be.
While you may not have had the exact thing that happened with me, happen with you, you may be just going through the motions too. Here I am identifying some of the key differences between going through life and actually growing through.
Going Vs. Growing
Go Through Life
When you are just going through life, you tend to remain attached to common things. Therefore, leading to having little to no desire to experience something new. Sometimes employing procrastination regularly to avoid having to deal with things that you don’t want to or feel unable to deal with.
Consequently, people who are going through the motions can be any combination of upset, sad, withdrawn, or irritable. People who are just making it may feel hopeless. A negative attitude, and lack motivation to do anything beyond what absolutely has to be done is present.
Grow Through Life
When you seek to grow, you tend to try to surround yourself with positive influences. You tend to have an overall desire for new knowledge, experiences, exposure to ideas and things that will make you better.
There is a willingness and openness to being more interactive and a general curiosity to gain something out of life.
Those who want to grow through life’s experiences have an outlook of optimism, and they radiate positive energy to those that are around them.
I have been on both sides of the continuum at different points of my life. I consider myself to be a person who is always seeking to grow, but I sometimes fall into a space of making it.
There is good news! You are not confined to a non-growing space any longer than you choose to be there!
If you can identify with any of the things associated with just going through life, I would like to encourage you to take steps to become someone who is on the other side, the growing side, of things. Allow time for reflection. Get help if you need it (there’s no shame), and tune in to what you feel.
